PGA Predicition?
One of my favorite morning routines is listening to ESPN radio on the way to work. Depending on the time of year, and quite honestly my motivation to achieve something that day, I generally catch the last hour of the Mike and Mike in the Morning radio show. During the football season they have a weekly segment where they make predictions on the upcoming NFL games that can be entertaining at times.
So, what does predicting NFL football games have to do with golf? Well, it’s February and we live in South Dakota. Golf tips that fix your over-the-top slice really aren’t fitting this time of the year. Therefore, I am expanding my golf advice this month and entering the sports prediction arena.
So here they are, sports junkies, the 2008 PGA Tour predictions sure to go wrong. As with all advice, please proceed with caution. Previous results do not guarantee future outcomes.
Masters
This one is easy. Tiger is coming off a strong finish to the ‘07 season and Augusta National was built for his game. Bet the house on this one. Tiger reminds the world why he will eventually pass Jack and his 18 majors.
US Open
The US Open goes to Torrey Pines for the first time. Once again it is hard to bet against Tiger in his backyard of San Diego, but the Open courses are known for long grass and tight fairways. Not Tiger’s strong point. Jim Furyk has won this title before and will win it again on the cliffs of sunny California.
British Open
The British Open is the wild card every year. Wind, rain and a television schedule that bumps Saturday morning cartoons make this one difficult. I like Justin Rose to claim his first major here. The young Englishman is due.
PGA Championship
A major championship that has been won by former Westward Ho CC assistant Rich Beem proves this event is wide open. My gut tells me Phil wants this one bad after a summer of Tiger domination. Mickelson rises to the occasion and adds his name to yet another PGA Championship trophy.
Ryder Cup
This event between the US and Europe comes around only once every two years and has quickly become a must watch for golf fans. The US needs a win here to save face and bring back a little pride to American golf. The US pulls away with strong play in the Sunday singles matches and carries captain Paul Azinger off into the sunset.

Comment by Bogey on 12 March 2008:
Everyone should know by now that Tiger is the dominant force on the PGA Tour. Maybe folks should start picking second place finishers instead of the winner, that would be much more interesting. After you take Tiger out of the mix, everybody else is pretty much on the same level. Phil, Ernie, Vijay and Furyk are really in the same ball park as the rest of the pack. They don’t have the dominance over the rest of the pack as Woods does everyone.
Needless to say, I’m ready to play….get rid of the snow and cold already!!

Bogey, I agree with you 100%. You absolutely need to separate him from the rest. I remember when I saw Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Loren Roberts in the 94 US Open. I thought Els looked pretty dominant for being a younger player. Then he won it again in 97. I thought, this guy looks solid. Enter Tiger… Game over.

Bogey, you hit the nail right on the head. Wood IS the dominant player in the world and we should be so fortunate as to watch him dominate the field week in and week out. We are witnesses to history in the making and everyone should appreciate his efforts.
As far as golfing in this area, it might be another month but the temps are picking up.

I was out chipping ice today and that means one thing. My power draw (well maybe a hook) is right around the corner on some course yet to be determined.
