Ask Orty
I was out and about a couple weeks ago and I actually got into a fight. Not a shouting match, mind you, but a real honest to goodness, punches thrown, fight. I hadn’t been in one since I was 19 and that was a long time ago. The other guy was drunk and really obnoxious. I tried not to rise to the bait, but before I knew it, we were rolling around on the ground, flailing away.

Live Well. Eat Better.
\We have all heard the news stories and seen the PSAs telling us to read the label and I’m not going to preach about trans-fats or caloric intake—we are in no shape to throw stones there. But we do encourage you to look at the labels and see if what you are about to eat passes one simple test: Do you know what the ingredients on the list are? If you don’t know what partially-hydrogenated crap-weasel extract is, don’t eat it. Simple as that. See our sidebar on Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce for a real eye-opener.

It is helpful to understand the function of the rotator cuff. The cuff consists of 4 muscles that surround the ball of the shoulder joint. When they function normally, they help the ball stay centered in the socket so the larger muscles can provide the strength needed for activities.

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead is not your average music biography. In the days before his death, Zevon asked his ex-wife to not only publish his triumphs but every piece of dirt she could dig up. There was plenty of dirt, too – the more publicized exploits of Behind the Music faves Mötley Crüe and Guns and Roses pale next to the stories told in the 450-page book.

Experts agree that wealth alone is no guarantee of retirement security; saving too little “runs up and down the income scale and wealth scale,” says Olivia S. Mitchell, an insurance and risk-management professor at Wharton. Comfortable living inevitably translates to spending. Though the wealthy save, Mitchell explained in the Wharton study, “people with high earnings also spend a lot” to keep the lifestyle they enjoy going.

Are weekend or seasonal athletes more prone to injury than professionals?
There are two things at play. One is conditioning. The “weekend warrior” is not as likely to be well conditioned, so that puts them at increased risk. But, they are engaged in athletics far fewer hours per week than pro athletes, overall decreasing their chances of being injured.

Back in the August of 2006 issue, I stated that the Portland-based group The Dandy Warhols lent their song “Bohemian Like You” to the Ford Motor Company. What can I say? I saw the ad, I heard the song, I saw the car speeding across the screen in a quick-edit montage that would make your head explode, and I made an assumption. However, nothing could have been further from the truth.
